Sending a request for rectification or response to Yle

You can send Yle a request for rectification or response related to a specific Yle programme or article.

A request for rectification concerns incorrect factual information and not the perspective of a programme or article or the opinions expressed in a programme or article.

Under the Act on the Exercise of Freedom of Expression, a private individual, a corporation, a foundation and a public authority have the right to have erroneous information on them or their operations contained in a network publication or program corrected in the same publication or in a program by the broadcaster in question, unless such correction is manifestly unnecessary owing to the minor significance of the error.

Similarly, a private individual who has a justified reason to consider that a message contained in a publication by Yle is offensive has the right to have a response published in the same publication or programme. The right to respond especially arises if a person has not been consulted in connection with the publication.

Yle acts in accordance with the principles of the Act on the Exercise of Freedom of Expression.

When contacting us, please share your name and precisely what publication your request concerns. This will speed up the processing of your request at Yle.

Correcting an error according to the Ethical Quidelines for Journalism

As stated in the Journalistic guidelines, Yle corrects a material factual error as soon as possible after it has become known to the editorial staff. The correction is published in all publication channels where the incorrect story has been published or made available to the public, and the correction is accompanied by information about the error and how and when it has been corrected.

The attention value of the correction is proportional to the severity of the error. If there are multiple factual errors or if the error could cause serious damage, the editorial staff will publish a new corrected story identifying and correcting the incorrect information.
