The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra is looking for a new general manager. The job advertisement was published today.
”The selected person will take the helm of an orchestra in top condition that will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, as an orchestra for all Finns, is a strong example of Yle's cultural mission,” says Johanna Törn-Mangs, Director and Editor-in-Chief of Yle’s Culture and Factual Content unit.
The FRSO's current general manager, Maris Gothoni, is leaving his position. He has decided to pursue new challenges outside Yle. In addition, he will continue as artistic advisor for the Weiwuying International Music Festival and the Tongyeong International Music Festival.
”Maris Gothoni has done a lot of good work at the FRSO, and I want to warmly thank him for that. Under his leadership, the orchestra has boldly explored new opportunities for collaboration,” Törn-Mangs says.
Notable highlights from Gothoni's programming include Antoine Tamestit as the FRSO’s artist-in-residence, the FRSO's first recordings featuring music by Jukka Tiensuu, Hans Abrahamsen and Sofia Gubaidulina, Hans Abrahamsen as composer-in-residence, Lili Boulanger and Sofia Gubaidulina as the FRSO's themed composers, and the orchestra's first visit to the prestigious Musikfest Berlin festival to celebrate the Berliner Festspiele's 75th anniversary at the festival's opening concert.
Nicholas Collon will continue as the FRSO's Chief Conductor until June 2030.
”It has been a great pleasure to work with this world-class orchestra and the brilliant Nicholas Collon. It has been inspiring to be part of a dynamic media company. Many thanks to everyone for the collaboration over the past two years,” Gothoni says.
