Finnish shipping company Viking Line said its business had been dramatically affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Some 570 workers are party to cooperation negotiations announced by the firm that will affect staff in Finland, Sweden, Estonia and the Åland Islands.

"For Viking Line, the most important restrictions still in effect concern travel restrictions between Finland and Sweden," the company said in a statement.

Viking Line CEO Jan Hanses said that while business had been deteriorating since March due to the pandemic, it was also still difficult to predict how long the situation would last.

The planned measures are expected to result in a shift to part-time jobs, layoffs or redundancies for up to 200 people.
