Minister Wants List of Key TV Events

Finland's Minister of Transport and Communications Leena Luhtanen has ordered the drafting of a list of important events that must be shown on freely-accessible television channels.

Luhtanen says that the listing of such TV programmes is necessary because of the advances of digital pay-TV. Luhtanen says that key sporting events and cultural programmes must continue to be available to all TV viewers, without paying extra.

Luhtanen would not say on Tuesday which events would be included on the list, but she said that the Olympic Games would certainly have to be available to all viewers.

Similar lists have been drafted in five other EU countries.
