The Minister of Health and Social Services Liisa Hyssälä intends to establish a national patient electronic database during the life of the current parliament.
She told the newspaper Aamulehti that financing was available for the project.
Currently patient data is held in many different establishments and does not always flow smoothly between them.
The Minister added that problems related to the patient data base, such as confidentiality of records, will be solved. Such institutions such as the Social Insurance Institution and local government bodies are involved in the project.
