During her visit, Thors is to meet with Indian Home Affairs Minister P. Chidambaram, a veteran politician from the governing United Progressive Alliance. Topics up for discussion will include the issues related to economic migration in respect of both India and the European Union. The ministers will discuss the efficacy of migration procedures and ways in which to foster better working relationships.
Thors will also meet with representatives from Finnish companies during her visit, as well as visiting the Nokia Siemens factory in Chennai.
The majority of Indian nationals moving to Finland are highly-skilled professionals involved in the IT industry. Some 1,400 applications for residence permits had been received from people originating from India by the end of October last year.
Thors is to return to Helsinki on Friday, Jan. 28.
