Evira Checking Radiation Levels of Japanese Products

The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira will assess whether any Japanese food products imported into Finland display elevated radiation levels due to the troubles at the Fukushima nuclear plant. The EU has urged member states to conduct such checks.

Evira says that very few foodstuffs are brought into Finland from Japan. Fish and soya sauce feature prominently among the imported products.

The authority will reveal the most pertinent test results on Thursday.

The European Union has directed each of its 27 members to check the radiation levels of foodstuffs imported from Japan.
