Pietarsaari McDonald’s entrepreneur Kai Laaksonen says that the decision to impose an age limit was the result of long deliberations.
He says that teenagers have broken the restaurant’s furniture and disturbed other customers and restaurant staff with their behaviour.
Laaksonen says that police needed to be called several times.
“A restaurant can choose its customers, this rule we obey. Officials have also encouraged us to do this.”
Now the plan is to hire more security guards to check identification documents at the doors.
“We’ll drop this practice as soon as the situation is resolved.”
This is a unique situation for Laaksonen, who operates seven restaurants.
“Indeed this is very rare in Finland. I don’t remember whether I’ve heard of such an occurrence before.”
