Warm weather continues, as do summer storms

The weather is expected to continue warm and humid in southern and central parts of Finland at least over the weekend. On Friday, a band of thunder storms is forecast to sweep through an area stretching from Satakunta in the south-west to Koillismaa in the north-east.

Finland's weather continues to be dominated by a warm, humid air mass. Friday's storm fronts are concentrated in central areas of the country, but some local thunder showers are possibly in the south.

Conditions are likely to remain unchanged through the weekend, with cooler, drier weather not moving into the country before Monday. Even then, daytime temperatures are forecast to stay at around 25C in southern and central areas.

Cooler weather will be seen in Lapland starting as of Friday, with some local high temperatures below 20 degrees.

On Thursday, some 10,000 lightning flashes were recorded and Friday's figure may be as high. So far this summer, there have been six 24-hour periods during which at least 10,000 lightning flashes have been observed.
