Fake Doctor Furore Keeps Valvira Busy

Revelations of people working as doctors without the proper qualifications have led to a surge in requests to Valvira, the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health, to verify the credentials of medical professionals.

According to the Kuopio-based newspaper Savon Sanomat, Valvira is getting about 600 requests every day for confirmation of the competence of doctors.

The records of four medical students are currently under investigation. They are not suspected of actually impersonating doctors, however; they are believed to either lack some exams, or their studies have been found to have taken too long.

Qualified medical personnel are listed in the Terhikki registry, whose information is available to all who request it.
