Avalanche Risk Persists in Finnish Lapland

The risk of avalanches on fells and slopes in Finnish Lapland remains great, says the Finnish Meteorological Institute. It adds avalanches due to natural causes as well as those caused by skiers are both likely.

The risk of avalanches is greatest outside the larger slope areas. In particular, the Institute says the risk is greatest for the rest of this week in the Ruka and Luosto-Pyhätunturi areas.

A smaller avalanche risk persists in the areas of Levi, Ounas-pallastunturi and Saariselkä.
