Cache of Methamphetamine Leads to Charges

Finnish Customs says that its officers uncovered a cache of 12 kilogrammes of unusually potent methamphetamine and 200 grammes of cocaine after following the driver of a Lithuanian lorry to a forest rendezvous.

The lorry, that came into Finland from Lithuania via Estonia, was followed by customs officers to a spot outside Helsinki where the driver parked at the edge of a forest for several hours before being joined by a man who arrive on foot.

After the two entered and returned from the forest, officers apprehended them and found five kilogrammes of methamphetamine and 200 grammes of cocaine in the possession of the man who had arrive on foot. A further seven kilogrammes of methamphetamine was discovered hidden in a nearby snowdrift.

Some of the methamphetamine seized was twice a potent as normally seen. Officials say that the cache would have provided up to 60,000 doses of the drug with a street value of around 300,000 euros. The cocaine was valued at around 20,000 euros.

The case has been turned over to prosecutors in Helsinki.
