The Irish rock band gave the first of its two concerts at Helsinki's Olympic Stadium on Friday night. A record 53,000 people listened as Bono praised both Finland and the Finns.

Friday’s concert was delayed owing to a problem with stage screens. However, once underway U2 did their utmost to please the enthusiastic audience with Bono doing his best even to say some words in Finnish.

After Saturday's second concert in Helsinki, U2's current tour takes them to Moscow on Wednesday.
