Niinistö visits Estonia

Finland's head of state is continuing his introductory visits to neighbouring countries.

Finnish president Sauli Niinistö is on his first official trip to Estonia on Wednesday. Economic matters dominated talks between Niinistö and his Estonian counterpart, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, who said his country should model its economic policy on Finland.

Niinistö also met with the speaker of the Estonian parliament, Ene Ergman, and Prime Minister Andrus Ansip.

The president’s wife, Jenni Haukio, had to cancel her programme of activities and visits due to illness. The Finnish Embassy in Tallinn is hosting a reception to conclude the visit.

Last week, Finland’s first couple made their first official visit to Sweden.
