Jacques the Octopus forecasts gold for Finns

The newest resident of Helsinki Sea Life, Jacques "Jakki" the Octopus liked the look of the Finnish flag and pulled it from his lair. That's the closest thing to a sure sign of a gold medal for the Finland at the Men's World Ice Hockey Championships.

It is now official: Finland will take first place in the World Ice Hockey Championships. If you can't believe an octopus, who can you believe?

The latest addition to Helsinki Sea Life, Jacques, a common Atlantic octopus, known by his keepers as "Jakki" has made his prediction.

Offered the choice of the flags of the four semi-finalists in the World Ice Hockey Championships, he snatched at the Finnish flag with an air of confidence that left no room for doubt.

The abilities of this species of octopus to accurately forecast the outcome of major sporting events is well established.

Paul the Octopus, who lived at Sea Life in Oberhausen, Germany, correctly predicted the winner of each of the Germany national football team's seven matches in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The credibility and impartiality of Jacques' soothsaying is further enhanced by the fact that he is a native of France and recent arrival in Finland.
