Reduced Charges in Narcotics Police Probe

Police at the National Bureau of Investigation and the Vantaa drug squad are no longer suspected of grave offences in carrying out their work.

Sakari Tiilikainen, the new chief investigator in the case, also reduced the number of police suspects from sixteen to ten. The police are, however, suspected of overstepping their bounds in efforts to catch criminals.

Some Helsinki drug officers are suspected of breach of official code of conduct.

The Office of the Prosecutor General is also investigating allegations of threats against a police investigator, who was looking into possible offences committed by drug squads.

Earlier this month, District Prosecutor Marianne Semi told the YLE current affairs programme Silminnnäkijä that she had received threats from police officers while investigating the operations of the Vantaa and National Bureau of Investigation drug squads. Semi was subsequently removed from the case and was replaced by Helsinki District Prosecutor, Sakari Tiilikainen.
