Mobile police in Finland are cracking down on violations by large vehicles this week. The campaign is part of a European-wide campaign by the European Traffic Police Network TISPOL.
The operation was prompted by growth in heavy traffic as well as EU requirements for enforcement of regulations covering heavy road transport.
Problems linked with the monitoring of heavy traffic are primarily linked with violations of driving and resting times, as well as rules on loads that the vehicles carry. There have also been reports of problems in the transport of hazardous substances.
