Return of Peacekeepers from Chad Delayed

The return of about 30 Finnish peacekeepers from tours of duty in Chad is being delayed because the German flight operator that has been contracted to transport them home has been unable to secure permission to over-fly African territories.

According to a spokesman for the Finnish Army's General Staff Headquarters, efforts are under way to repatriate the soldiers this week. Originally, they were scheduled to return home on the last day of November.

The delay will also shift the demobilisation period for the soldiers, during which they are debriefed and their physical condition is examined.

There are still about 60 Finns serving in the peacekeeping operation in Chad.
