The winners included the St1 petrol station chain for its biofuels programme. Others were the biogas company Biovakka, Finnchain, which makes chain scrapers, iLoq, a manufacturer of electronic locking systems, and Preseco, developer of water, biowaste and biofuels systems.
They were chosen from more than 160 entrants. This year's theme was climate and energy.
The jury praised these firms for innovatively responding to human needs and improving their own competitiveness.
Halonen handed out the awards at the Board of Patents and Registration office in central Helsinki on Tuesday. In addition to the national corporate prizes, honours were also handed out for the winners of contests for military conscripts and schoolchildren.
