Representatives from International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) and the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear weapons (ICAN) are delivering an appeal to president Sauli Niinistö for Finland to adopt a prominent role in driving nuclear disarmament. As a symbolic gesture, the peace organisations are also bringing Niinistö origami cranes crafted by children in Hiroshima, Japan.
The International Day of Peace has been celebrated since 1981 to strengthen the ideals of peace, particularly the absence of war and violence.
