The working group behind The Punk Syndrome, a documentary following a punk band whose members all have Downs Syndrome, won the state award for film. They are producer Sami Jahnukainen, directors Jukka Kärkkäinen and J-P Passi, and editor Riitta Poikselkä.
The film follows the Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät band on tour, as well as offering viewers an insight into band members’ personal lives. The film has raised the band’s profile, showing how punk music has given a voice to four young men with plenty to say.
The state art award went to the association behind Galleria Rajatila in Tampere. The gallery has been recognised for making modern art more visible in the Pirkanmaa area over the last 15 years.
The state photography award was presented to Pekka Elomaa, a freelance photographer who has been committed to establishing a photography workshop for people with learning difficulties through the Lyhty ry association.
