The national airline’s passenger volumes rose significantly on regularly-scheduled routes in all areas except North Atlantic traffic. The most rapid growth was in Asia and Europe, which were both up by more than 10 percent.

Meanwhile volumes on leisure flights jumped by nearly 30 percent. Occupancy on planes flying leisure routes rose briskly, to some 92 percent. The overall passenger load factor improved by more than five percentage points to nearly 79 percent.

Cargo traffic slumped by 6.9 percent, with holds less than 70 percent full on average.

“In September, we saw continuing strong demand in our traffic. Traffic growth notably exceeded the growth of overall capacity, contributing to the improvement in unit revenue year-on-year,” the airline’s chief financial officer, Erno Hildén, said on Friday.

The airline also reports higher revenues per seat-kilometre, up by 7.4 percent on an annual basis.

Finnair boasts that its punctuality remains “excellent” with some 92 percent of flights landing on time.
