About 200 Aurinkomatkat holidaymakers found themselves stuck in the Canary Islands when their Finnair flight was cancelled because of a technical fault.

National carrier Finnair sent a substitute flight to Tenerife Monday to bring the stranded holidaymakers back to Finland. They were expected back in Finland Monday afternoon.

The flight was originally supposed to bring the passengers back to Helsinki on Sunday, but at the time was delayed due to the malfunction.

The mechanical failure appeared to affect control of the vessel’s nose wheel, according to Finnair communications chief Päivyt Tallqvist.
