How food prices are eating into your pocket

Yle looked at the price development of a selection of common food items between December 2011 and 2012. Prices rose from a minimum of nearly 10 percent to a hefty 44%. With a little help from the extensive database at Statistics Finland, Yle selected a shopping basket of Finns’ favourite food items to see how the prices have risen over the past year. Potatoes in particular bit into consumers’ wallets most, showing a high-calorie price increase of 44 percent in one year.
