Finnvera: Small and medium companies not gaining investment

Investment in small and medium sized enterprises was lower than normal during the first part of the year. A lot of refinancing and payment restructuring arrangements were made from January to June, but investments were slow.

The low investment level is a symptom of the sluggish economy, according to state-owned specialized financing company, Finnvera. Smaller businesses are reluctant to invest and their demand for financing focuses on working capital.

Companies in the weakest economic position find it more difficult to acquire financing, and since such companies are already vulnerable, there is less chance of them pulling through the tough times.

However, in Finland the availability of funding is quite good, at least if compared to the rest of Europe, says Finnvera.

The decline in Finland’s total exports did not affect the demand for export financing, which reached a higher level than in the year before, according to Finnvera.

The Finnvera Group’s profit was EUR 44 million – clearly more than the 19 million euro profit for the first half of 2012. The financing company estimates that the group’s earnings will exceed those of last year.
