Nokia had originally announced that it anticipated ditching around 160 workers.

The exact amount of positions lost is not yet known, with around 15 employees’ possibly being shuffled to newly vacated posts in Oulu. The new workplaces will be finalized by early October.

Nokia’s Mobile Phones unit in Oulu will continue to operate with over 500 employees, says the company's senior staff steward Tiina Nortamo.

“The entire staff is waiting for the end of the negotiations, because then we really know how this process will go,” says Nortamo. “We’ will continue to move forward and we’ll keep waiting to see how the sale (to Microsoft) goes.”
