Finnish-background man on hacking charges

A man who holds dual Finnish-British citizenship has been charged by the US in connection with extensive hacking of government and military websites.

Twenty-eight-year-old Lauri Love was detained on Friday at his home in south-eastern England. He was released on bail yesterday but could face extradition to the United States by British authorities.

Love reportedly caused millions of euros worth of damage to the US government during a year-long hacking campaign in which he allegedly military data and personal information.

Love, who has dual Finnish-British citizenship faces up to ten years in prison if found guilty of the charges.

The newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reports that Love has sought consular assistance from the Finnish Embassy in London.

Pekka Isosomppi, Press counsellor at the embassy, declines to confirm this but says he would in principle be entitled to such support.
