2.2 million watch Lions’ bronze medal game

Finns’ enthusiasm for the Winter Olympics showed no sign of diminishing on Saturday, when more than two million people tuned in to see the men’s ice hockey team win the bronze medal with a 5-0 win over the USA.

The Lions won the bronze medal on an emotional afternoon, after which several players including 43-year-old captain Teemu Selänne announced their retirement from international hockey.

His swansong was long-awaited and brought a huge audience, which peaked at 2.28 million viewers at 19:15 in the closing stages of the match.

The average audience for the whole game was 1.67 million viewers. Finland ran out 5-0 winners to take the bronze medal. Their goals came from Teemu Selänne (2), Jussi Jokinen, Olli Määttä and Juuso Hietanen.
