Meteorologists are forecasting temperatures this week ranging from five to eight degrees Celsius in some areas, with the warmest areas in the west and southwest. Nighttime temperatures will however still dip below freezing.

Meteorologist Eero Ojala of the Finnish Meteorological Institute FMI said that the start of the week will also bring relatively strong but mild winds, but they will weaken as the week progresses.

The country can still expect snow or rain Monday in Lapland, but conditions will be dry elsewhere all week.

There’ll be no changes next weekend in southern and central Finland, so conditions will remain mild and sunny. Daytime temperatures in Lapland may still slip below zero.

Pollen to take over southern Finland

Hazel and adder trees have already begun to flower on the country’s west coast and this week the seasonal bloom will spread across the south. The amount of pollen in the air depends on weather conditions -- warm and dry weather with light winds favour its spread.

Birch generally flowers in mid-April, but this year blooms may come earlier, according to Turku University Aerobiology unit researcher Annika Saarto.
