Children’s charity worker sentenced for €30,000 fraud

A former office worker at the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare has been handed a suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay back the money stolen by redirecting charity funds into their personal bank account.

A former worker for the children’s charity Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (MLL) was found guilty of embezzlement and payment fraud, and handed a suspended jail sentence of one year 20 days and ordered to pay back 35,000 euros in damages. The employee was also ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.

The former office worker from MLL’s South Savo branch was found to have been responsible for ambiguities in the processing of invoices between 2008 and 2011. Payment information had been altered so that 31,789 euros’ worth of funds was redirected to the worker’s bank account.

In addition the worker was found guilty of using the organisation’s credit card to make 824 euros’ worth of purchases.
