General Jarmo Lindberg to head defence forces

The former commander of the Finnish Air Force, General Jarmo Lindberg, has been named to take over the top defence post.

According to information received by Yle, General Jarmo Lindberg, 54, will be formally confirmed on Friday to take over from the retiring defence forces commander, General Ari Puheloinen.

Lindberg was Commander of the Finnish Air Force 2008–2012. He is a former fighter pilot with experience flying both MiG-21s and Hornets, which he was trained on in the US. While air force commander, he was a strong advocate of active international contacts.
