Former Finnish minister on OSCE Crimea mission

Former Finnish government minister Astrid Thors is in the Crimean peninsula as part of an effort by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE ) to de-escalate the situation there.

Thors, who is the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, is part of a high-level delegation, also including OSCE Special Envoy Tim Guldimann, that is seeking ways out of the current crisis in Crimea.

The OSCE has called on all parties to refrain from violence and any further escalation of tensions.

Astrid Thors served as Minister for Migration and European Affairs in two cabinets 2007-2011 as a member of Finland's Swedish People's Party.

Thors took up the post of OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities in September 2013. Her responsibilities include the prevention and resolution of conflicts related to national minorities on the territory of the member states of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
