A list published this week by the Employment Ministry shows that, of the 15 professions suffering the most acute shortages, ten are in the health and social care sector. Meanwhile in recent years carpenters, newspaper journalists and travel agents have been rising up the list of professions in over-supply.

- Laboratory technician and X-ray technician

- Book keeper and payroll clerk
- Pharmacist

- Office worker
- Communications and electronics technician
- Fine artist
- Secretary
- Advertising worker
- Joiner/finish carpenter
