Stomach bug now linked to two Vantaa swimming venues

Several incidents of stomach flu linked to two public swimming sites, the Leppäkorpi open-air pool and the Vetokannas beach, have been reported to the Vantaa Environmental Agency. Swimming at these sites is not recommended for the time being.

The City of Vantaa says around a dozen people have fallen ill after swimming in the two locations in Vantaa, the Leppäkorpi open-air pool and the Vetokannas beach. The reports began to come in late last week. Samples have been taken of the water in both sites to determine the reason for the illness.

This latest outbreak joins a spat of similar occurrences throughout the country. More than 120 people who swam in Pilvijärvi Lake in Sipoo fell ill with a stomach illness last week, where water samples revealed that the norovirus was to blame. Swimmers in Tampere, Oulu and other cities have also reported falling ill after swimming this summer.
