According to tax authorities some 3.3 million people in Finland will get refunds on taxes paid in 2013. Altogether they’ll be paid 2.2 billion euros, making the average windfall payment around 658 euros each.
However 711,000 taxpayers will receive a pleasant seasonal deposit of more than 1,000 euros, accounting for 65 percent of the refunds paid out by the taxman. The tax refunds are expected to hit bank accounts on December 3.
Over 750,000 to pay residual taxes
Some taxpayers won’t be so lucky however, as they’ve been found by tax authorities to have contributed too little by way of taxes in 2013. They’ll have to dig deep to pay the first installment of residual taxes due to the state on December 1.
This year, tax authorities have their eyes on 778,000 individuals who’ve stinted on their tax contributions. Their average tax bill will amount to 1,424 euros of a total of 1.1 billion euros owed to the government.
Some 77 percent of people due to pay taxes owed from 2013 will pay less than 1,000 euros, however.
If the outstanding tax owed exceeds 170 euros, the amount is split into two payments: the first is due on December 1 and the second by February 2, 2015 at the latest.
