Summer’s over for Helsinki Regional Transport; revised winter schedules resume Monday

In a sure sign that the summer holiday period is over, Helsinki Regional Transport says its services will revert to winter schedules from Monday. The company says the change will mean extensive changes to bus, tram and metro timetables. The biggest shifts will occur in Vantaa, where bus routes have been completely re-organised.

Members of the public using public transportation in the Helsinki region would do well to prepare for possible delays and familiarise themselves with Helsinki Regional Transport’s new winter schedules.

HSL said that come Monday commuters will see a completely overhauled bus service in Vantaa. Not only have routes been wholly revised, but route numbers have also changed.

Otherwise, a new trunk line service 560 launched Monday has been designed to improve transverse links in the Helsinki region and to strengthen the trunk line network. The route will run from Rastila to Myyrmäki via Vuosaari, Mellunmäki, Kontula and Malmi. The service will also travel via a kilometre-long tunnel between Paloheinä and Kuninkaantammi.

HSL’s new winter timetable will also bring numerous changes to other public transportation services, including tram and metro routes. There will be no changes to commuter trains or ferry services to Suomenlinna.

More information about the route alterations can be found on the HSL website.
