CSKA Moscow's Finnish midfielder Roman Eremenko has been banned for two years after testing positive for cocaine. The positive sample was taken after a Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen in Germany on 14 September.
Uefa's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body found him guilty of breaching Uefa anti-doping regulations and banned him for three years from 6 October, the date when his provisional suspension began.
He had been omitted from a Finland game in Iceland on that date with no explanation given for his absence, and has since been banned from even training with his CSKA team-mates.
Eremenko has three days to appeal the verdict.
29-year-old Eremenko comes from a footballing family. His father Alexei Sr moved to Finland in the 1990s, settling in Jakobstad after ending his career with local club FF Jaro. All three of his sons have played for the club, with Alexei Jr now retired and the youngest, Sergei, currently at FC basel under-18s in Switzerland.
