Helsinki police said that shortly after midday on Wednesday they received a call asking them to check an apartment in Vuosaari for the whereabouts of a 29 year-old man. The man’s workmates told officers that had been unable to reach him after he didn’t show up for work.

"We entered the home because of concerns expressed by workmates. The man had not shown up for work and his colleagues were worried and contacted the police," explained chief inspector Jari Koski of the Helsinki police department.

Upon entering the flat, officers found the man and his 32 year-old wife, both of whom were dead. The couple’s three-year old son was also at the home, however police said that he appeared to be unharmed.

Police said they suspect the case involves a murder-suicide and are investigating accordingly.

"The married couple were in the home and no external parties are suspected of involvement in the case," Koski disclosed.
