A record number of women completed military service in Finland this year, according to the Finnish Defence Forces.
The military body said that the Finnish Defence Forces and Border Guard trained some 1,040 women in 2022, making it the first time that figure exceeds 1,000.
Over 1,200 women started their voluntary military service this year, which is also the highest number in history, with a couple of hundred dropping out before they completed their service stints.
By the end of this year, more than 12,000 women in Finland will have received reserve training.
A recent survey by the Uutissuomalainen newspaper group found that more than a third of people in Finland would support female conscription.
Some 35 percent of the poll's respondents were in favour of extending military conscription to women. However, 44 percent of those surveyed said they were against the idea of extending conscription.
An Yle poll conducted in May also found that a third of Finnish MPs would back compulsory conscription for women.
