Finland's naming committee lists accepted, rejected baby names

For example, Alfred's daughter, Lucifer and Nat8hquhs were not accepted by the committee this year, but Bobandy, Unikonsiemen and Saturnus were approved.

Finland's naming oversight committee, a part of the justice ministry, has released a list of the new names it approved — as well as rejected — last year.

The list not only includes the first names submitted for newborns, it also includes ones intended for adults who wanted to change their names.

The vast majority of first names are accepted as they are submitted to the Digital and Population Services Agency, but the agency asks the committee to review names under certain circumstances.

The agency cannot, however, reject a submitted name without the authority of the committee, but it is able to accept new names without the committee's approval.

The following names were rejected by the committee:

Ahdin, Aicksar, Alfred's daughter, Amnell, Annatar, Appelsiinikki, Azazel, Buddha, Caladrius, Eklander, Ellé, Ephimachius, Felín, Filipecki, Haades, Jezebel, johannes, Juhoha, Julma-Hurtta, Kaaos, Kallen-Kallela, Klapi, Koivuniitty, Kukurtaja, Lord, Lucifer, Maï, Mielivalta, Nat8hquhs, Nex, Otawa, Paperi, Pelekkä, Punpuli, Puukko Armo, Raivomieli, Rikia, Rody's son, Rosmo, samsam, Saturnius, Sheikki, Sorína, Suudelmitar, Taawi, Tanyá, Tsygä, Tuoni, Uakke, Uhka, Ukonvaaja, Wiiru, Åriz

The committee accepted these names last year:
