President Sauli Niinistö visited the earthquake-hit regions of Turkey on Thursday, on the first day of a visit expected to see the ratification of Finnish Nato membership.
Niinistö visited the town of Khamaranmaras, which suffered devastating destruction in January's earthquake.
Niinistö said in a tweet that aid workers are doing very important work in the city. He added that Finland will continue its humanitarian and expert assistance in Turkey's earthquake-hit regions.
The two-day visit continues on Friday when Niinistö is expected to meet his Turkish counterpart, Reccep Tayyip Erdogan.
Niinistö said on Wednesday that Turkey had requested he visit the country when it gives its support for Finnish Nato membership. That is expected to occur on Friday, with Sweden left waiting for Turkish approval at a later date.
