Finland got a new Catholic bishop after a four-year pause following the consecration mass of Father Raimo Goyarrola on Saturday.
Swedish Cardinal Anders Arborelius led the mass at Helsinki's St. John's Church, which drew some 15 Catholic bishops and 40 priests from different countries.
Pope Francis appointed Father Raimo Goyarrola to the post in September.
Goyarrola, who trained as a physician and is originally from Spain's Basque Country, has lived in Finland for years. He previously served as the vicar general of the Diocese of Helsinki.
Teemu Sippo, who retired in 2019, was the first Finnish-born Catholic Bishop since the Reformation. The Catholic Church in Finland is formed by only one Diocese — that of Helsinki — and has not had a bishop since Sippo's retirement.
Finland is home to a small Catholic community, with an estimated 17,000 members across eight parishes.
