The spot price of electricity will fall on Sunday compared to Saturday and especially compared to Friday's record high prices.
On Sunday, the price with VAT will be 15.96 cents per kilowatt hour (KWh) at its highest between 2am and 3am.
Overall, there are no huge differences in prices between the hours of the day. The average price for the whole day is 12.12 cents per KWh.
On Friday, the price of electricity on the exchange was sky-high, with some hours exceeding two euros per KWh. The jump in prices has been attributed to fallout from Finland's freezing week, where temperatures have reached below -40 degrees.
Friday's prices halted manufacturing
Friday's record-high costs forced some manufacturers to pull the brakes on assembly lines.
Oulu-based house manufacturer Mammuttihirsi shut down its entire production operation on Friday due to the high prices.
The reason is purely to save money, and the savings from the closure amount to around a thousand euros.
Some manufacturers reduced their capacity in the face of Friday's market fluctuations, such as the Outokumpu stainless steel mill in Tornio — Finland's largest single user of electricity.
Martti Sassi, head of the company's ferrochrome operations, said that the company has reacted to the price of electricity by limiting production "quite strongly".
"In ferrochrome production, the capacity of the smelting furnaces has been reduced, and in steel production they have looked hour by hour at what can be done," Sassi said.
