In the All Points North podcast this week we ask how young and first-time voters might affect the upcoming presidential election on 28 January.
Pekka Isotalo, a researcher at Helsinki University, says that there may be a nascent upward trend in young people's political interest.
"The turnout especially for the young first-time voters in Finland used to be really low, used to be less than 50 percent for 18 to 24 year olds, but in the previous parliamentary elections, we already had 58 percent of those young voters showing up and voting. In that sense, we've seen an increase in youth participation," said Isotalo.
We find out which parties younger voters favour, how they get information about politics and how their behaviour might impact the race. While young voters today may be getting their information on candidates through social media, they may be more conservative in their political views than their parents.
We also wrap up the rest of the week's news from Finland and see what's in the All Points North mailbag.
