The first-round 2024 Finnish presidential election result will likely be delayed, due to the record number of advance votes that need to be counted.
Counting the votes of the largest constituencies will still be in progress when voting on the actual election day ends on Sunday evening.
"I think the early voting results will be ready after nine," director of Electoral Administration at the Ministry of Justice, Arto Jääskeläinen, told Yle Radio 1's Ykkösaamu.
The delay is not due to the ballot counters, says Jääskeläinen, but to the fact that more than a third of those entitled to vote have already voted.
According to Jääskeläinen's estimate, the first round election result should be in by 10 pm Sunday.
