Prosecutors have filed charges against Jukka Kristo, the former CEO of one of Finland's largest berry retailers, Polarica Marjanhankinta. He faces 77 counts of aggravated human trafficking, the National Prosecution Authority said on Monday.

The same charges have also been brought against Kristo's Thai business partner, Kalyakorn Phongphit.

Prosecutors decided not to prosecute one of the suspects.

The charges relate to subjecting Thai workers to forced labour and other degrading conditions involving the harvesting of wild berries.

The alleged crimes were committed in 2022 in various parts of Finland.
