Finnish fuel firm Neste has announced that it can no longer guarantee sufficient fuel supplies to its nationwide chain of petrol stations due to the ongoing political strikes.

A number of outlets are already running low on stocks, Neste said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon, and the situation will become increasingly difficult the longer the strike continues.

The walkout has affected the transport and logistics sectors in particular, which has a knock-on effect on fuel deliveries and supplies.

Trade union confederation SAK extended the strike — now in its third week — until the end of this month, as the dispute intensifies over the government's plans to introduce a number of labour market reforms.

In its statement, Neste apologised for the potential inconvenience to customers.

The Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (abbreviated in Finnish as HSL) announced on Monday that bus routes in the capital region may be cancelled later this week and over the weekend due to a potential lack of fuel.
