Finland's year-on-year change in consumer prices dropped to 2.2 percent during the month of March, according to preliminary data published on Monday by Statistics Finland.

This is a further drop from February, when inflation stood at three percent, and follows a long-term downward trend since price rises hit 9 percent last year.

Statistics Finland attributed the drop in inflation to a number of different factors, including a milder-than-expected increase in the average interest rate on mortgages as well as a decrease in the price of electricity, according to a press release.

The data-crunching agency also reported that the rate of inflation in the Eurozone area was 2.4 percent in March, based on the latest Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP). The corresponding figure for Finland was 0.5 percent last month.
