Two chairs worth nearly 10,000 euros apiece disappeared from the lobby at Aalto University's Espoo campus.
The institution's surveillance camera revealed that the chairs had been stolen, and also identified the individual suspected of stealing them and the vehicle used in the crime.
According to Helsingin Sanomat, the chairs were the Karuselli model produced by Artek, which were designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro, a former professor and rector at Aalto's predecessor, the Institute of Industrial Arts.
The chairs retail at 9,200 euros apiece. Shortly after the theft, it appeared on an online auction site.
Eastern Uusimaa police said they discovered that the second chair had also ended up in the possession of the light-fingered furniture fancier.
One of the chairs was sold on, while the other remains missing. The vendor is now suspected of two counts of theft and fraud.
HS reports that Aalto has now moved the remainder of its dozen or so design chairs out of public areas as a precaution.
