Birch flowering has begun in southern Finland, triggering sniffly season for allergy sufferers.
Finland’s multiple late spring frosts kept the worst of the seasonal allergies at bay for slightly longer than usual, noted Sanna Pätsi, a researcher from Turku University's pollen information service Norkko.
Pätsi noted that birches began blooming last week in southern Finland, while the first trees in central regions started to bloom over the weekend.
She speculated that flowering will begin in northern parts of the country in 3–4 weeks, depending on the weather.
